What is a High-Risk Pregnancy?
A high-risk pregnancy is one that poses a higher risk to the mother, the baby, or both. High-risk pregnancies can be caused by a variety of factors including:
- Age: Women over the age of 35 are considered at higher risk for pregnancy complications.
- Medical conditions: Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy.
- Previous pregnancy complications: If you have experienced complications in a previous pregnancy, you may be considered at higher risk in future pregnancies.
- Multiple pregnancies: Pregnant women carrying multiple babies are at higher risk for complications during pregnancy and delivery.
- Uterine or cervical abnormalities: Structural abnormalities of the uterus or cervix can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy.
